Communications Officer

World Concern is a Christian global relief and development agency that extends opportunity and hope to people facing the most profound human challenges of extreme poverty. We work in 13 countries, focusing on food security, child protection, education, maternal and child health, microfinance, vocational training, clean water and sanitation and disaster response.

Position:                   Communications Officer

Location:                   Vientiane

Reports to:                Country Director

Contract Length:     One Year Renewable

Purpose:   to ensure accurate, timely, and thorough program and operational reports and impact communications (photos, video, stories, etc) are written and submitted  and to build the capacity within the country office and projects to achieve this function.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Coordinates closely with the Regional Communications Liaison Officer in developing compelling content from the work of World Concern in the particular area of responsibility

·         Support Program Managers in collecting information on a regular basis and assembling data-oriented reports for submission to the Country Director. These will reflect the full spectrum of WC programming and communicate detailed information on the projects’ implementation and impact on beneficiaries

·         Build capacity in programmatic sectors for information gathering and analysis

·         Create and maintain a library of digital images with respective names and impact stories for the country

Minimum Skills & Education required:

·         Demonstrates spirit of service and cooperation and a high level of values compatibility with World Concern

·         College or university level training in journalism, communications, or a related field; or one to two year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills. English required; Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

·         Must be culturally sensitive and respectful of all stakeholders

·         Must have well developed skills in writing (English), and proficiency in humanitarian photography and visual arts

·         Strong initiative and self-motivation, with a commitment to teamwork

·         Proficiency in common computer packages (e.g., Word, Excel) relevant to the work.

·         Ability and willingness to travel to very remote and harsh environments

·         Understanding of minimum standards in gathering information from beneficiaries in a humanitarian setting
