SNV Netherlands Development Organisation

Mission Statement

SNV is dedicated to a society where all people enjoy the freedom to pursue their own sustainable development. Our advisers contribute to this by strengthening the capacity of local organisations.

Programme Description

SNV is a not-for-profit international development organisation. Founded in the Netherlands nearly 50 years ago, we have built a long-term, local presence in 38 of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our global team of local and international advisors work with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organisations with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development.

In Lao PDR, our work is shaped by the context of national development priorities, and aligned with the Lao PDR Government’s development strategies. SNV's in Laos works with over a dozen projects in Agriculture, Renewable Energy, REDD+ and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

We deliver sustainable, pro-poor results through three different methods. Our primary means of achieving impact is through the provision of advisory services. We complement this approach by providing knowledge networking and evidence-based advocacy services.

We aim to strengthen our partner and client organisations in their goals to improve the income generating capacity of local communities, to increase access to basic services, to create a fair influence over the way they are governed, and to benefit from the natural resources surrounding them while sustaining the environment for future generations.
