Mission Statement

Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA) is a people`s voluntary organization established to contribute to a civil society in which people live and learn together while tolerating and respecting the beautiful diversity of ethnicity, language, culture, and religion, and leading towards their self actualisation. The civil society can only be created based on mutual understanding of their precious entities with practice of mercy and tolerance. SVA calls this state of people "Shanti" or "peace by awakening". SVA pays special attention to improvement of children`s educational environment in their communities.

To implement the Educational and Cultural Projects paying severe consideration to the traditional culture and values.

Programme Description

SVA aims to enable children and youth to have opportunity, capability and pride to select their future by themselves by creating appropriate educational environments for children who are future custodians of our societies. The target is children, youth and concerning adults in the target area, and the Lao counterparts are Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information and Culture, and National Library. SVA has been active in Lao since 1992. The expected outcomes are increased opportunity of reading and participation to society of children and youth, and increased quality of primary education. SVA has implemented reading promotion activity, Children`s Home for Culture and Education activity, primary school construction and integrated community education environment development activity, education material development for ethnic minority people activity and teaching aids development and teachers training for basic education activity.
