Village Focus International

Mission Statement

To protect, empower and educate the neediest communities of Laos, through projects focused on Child Protection and Empowerment, Land and Natural Resource Rights and Management, and Basic Human Needs (food, water, health care, education &ivelihood development)

Programme Description

Village Focus International was founded in August 2000 in the Lao PDR, and began full field operations in January of 2001. With a staff of 27 Lao and one expatriate, VFI operates 4 distinct projects in Saravane Province. VFI also works in close cooperation with the Global Association for People and the Environment in Champasack Province.

VFI focuses on building local (i.e. village, district, and organizational level) capacity through a program of non-formal education, leadership building, participation and local management. To achieve these foundation objectives, VFI provides training and support related to health care, food security, community-based natural resource management, livelihood development and anti-trafficking in women and children, and provides direct support for the formal education sector. VFI also strongly supports the participation and leadership of women in all of its project activities.

VFI is in its 5th full year in the Lao PDR. All field projects are designed and managed by VFI's Lao staff, who collectively have more than 100 years of development experience. VFI envisions a long-term local program managed by Lao staff working in partnership with the VFI international office, which will provide support for fundraising, network building and limited technical assistance.

1. Protection and empowerment of women and children

2. Land and livelihoods

3. Healthy villages and local leadership
