Pestalozzi Children's Foundation

Mission Statement

Our commitment to children in Switzerland and around the world

The Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation works to support children and youths. The Children's Village in Switzerland is a venue for intercultural exchange that allows young people from different backgrounds to meet, thereby engendering an understanding of different cultures. In its work abroad, the Foundation makes it possible for disadvantaged children to have regular access to high quality education.

Programme Description

The Pestalozzi Children's Foundation is a Swiss organization which offers disadvantaged children and adolescents worldwide access to education and encourages peoples from different cultural backgrounds to live together peacefully as it is politically and religiously neutral.

Pestalozzi Children's Foundation helps children and young people to develop their abilities and fulfill their potential. It supports them to lead an autonomous life and become active and independent members of society. The Foundation's activities are focused on education and intercultural coexistence.

The Pestalozzi Children's Foundation enters into long term technical and financial commitments with local partners. PCF acts not as an implementer, but as a facilitator and consequently, the ownership of the projects remains in the respective country and with the respective local partner organizations.

PCF works in partnership with Life Skills Development Association (LSDA) and Namjai Community Association (NCA) providing ethnic minority children the opportunity to basic quality education in the Lao PDR and promoting Indigenous Knowledge (IK) integration into the national curricula. At the same time, PCF has its cooperation with Dongkhamxang Teacher Training College (DTTC) in the integration of IK teaching development process into the pre-service teacher training curricula. Furthermore, the cooperation with DTTC is continuing with more innovations, for example Mother Tongue-Based/Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) media, Green & Clean School, Child Protection.

PCF and the operational partner organizations (LSDA, NCA and DTTC) have adopted and routinely apply an integrated participatory approach--Intercultural Education, Participatory Learning and Action, and Participatory Action Research--to the whole project cycle: planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
