Last updated:2012-07-24 08:57:43

Project Goal: Working in co-operation with Oxiana/LXML and the Deaprtment of Health of Vilabouly District to improve the health status of women and their children in fourteen target villages.

Project Objectives:

The project is based on a capacity development framework to ensure that local health authorities will continue their activities after the project ends.

The project will include an integrated MCH care strategy, strenghtening the district health system as well as addressing nutritional issues, especially infant nutrition withing the community context.

It has been found that the major causes of mortality and morbidity in Lao PDR are malaria, diarroheal diseases, ARI, vaccine preventable childhood diseases (e.g. measels), perinatal conditions and complications arising out of child-birth. In addition, these condiitions are made worse by high levels of protein-energy malnutrition.
