HIV Prevention and Infrastructure: Mitigating Risk in the Greater Mekong Region. Subproject 1-Lao Northern Economic Corridor

The goal of this project is to mitigate HIV related vulnerabilities along the completed Route 3 that is 220Km of road that runs through the northern provinces of Bokeo and Luang Namtha to link Thailnad with China.. Local AIDS authorities will collaborate with Burnet in developing effective prevention mechanisms, focusing on:  (i) the border areas with Yunnan province in China, and; (ii) communities along Route 3 and the Thai border.

The three main objectives of this project are:

Peer education will be used for information, education and behaviour change communication, with three different groups of peer educators: 1) service women, 2) construction site workers  and 3) youth living along Route 3 (primarily of ethnic minority).
