The Sustainable Food Security Development Project in Nhot Ou Dictrict, Phongsaly Province

The project directly targets at 40 villagers in Nhotou District with an estimated total population of 10 650 people.

The programme will train communities on nutrition, hygiene, health and general wellbeing. It will support women groups to take action in al1 aspects of food security, including reducing diseases through better sanitation and preventive healthcare. The programme will increase food production in terms of quantity and quality through more diverse farming systems in integrated upland faming and home gardens. It will safeguard wild food as a main food source through community-based management and sustainable use practices, including fish protection zones and beekeeping. The programme will boost local capacity building at the village and district level for sustainability during and after the programme through village extension work, training of district staff, and improved marketing and access to markets for local farmers and handicraft producers.
