Forestry and Agro-ecology in Lao Rural Uplands

Strengthen the capacity of rural upland populations in Viengkham District (Luang Prabang Province) to manage and conserve natural resources.

General objectives:

           To fight against poverty and contribute to economic and social development of rural populations

     To contribute to the restoration, preservation and enhancement of natural resources (water, soil, biodiversity)

         To contribute to the mitigation and adaptation to climate change (resilience of agricultural systems, reduction of GHG emissions and carbon sequestration).

Location: Viengkham District, Luang Prabang Province

Duration: 42 months, from the 1st of August 2014 to the 31st of July 2018

Main partner: Luang Prabang Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Office (PAFO)

Main financial partner: French Development Agency (AFD)

Specific Outcomes (SO):

     SO1: Technically, economically and environmentally efficient agricultural systems are implemented by family farms

       SO2: Development plans for agricultural and forestry communal areas are developed in a participatory manner and implemented at village level

    SO3: The environmental footprint of the project in terms of preservation of natural resources and potential mitigation of climate change is evaluated

   SO4: Models for large-scale dissemination of the project are developed and the conditions of replication are clearly identified
